This system allows technicians to monitor pacemaker and heart function over the telephone, in real time, while talking to the patient to check their overall health, to help them relax, and to provide instruction.

After gathering a significant amount of EKG information over the telephone, the tools provided permitted the technicians to measure time intervals, to compare intervals on the screen, and to select and cut and paste sections of the EKG. The patient's medical history, specifications of the patient's pacemaker, and a library of overall pacemaker specifications were made available to help analyze the EKG recordings.

Finally, the technician would prepare the medical analysis and send the combined data, along with automatically retrieved patient history and battery information, to a senior Reviewer. If necessary, test results could be passed back and forth between reviewer and technician until all testing issues are resolved, at which time the output would be prepared for automated mailing to the patient's physician or physicians.
